Apprentice‑Centered and Community‑Led Apprenticeship

CAM Pathways is a non-profit 501c(3), tax-exempt organization established for educational and community benefit purposes.

CAM Pathways envisions an education and work system in which young people in West Virginia learn both in the classroom and on the job, building the skills, experience, and networks they need to thrive in a changing economy. Our goal is to accomplish this by helping future leaders by building tailored apprenticeship programs. We help employers, schools, churches, and community partners redesign how they develop talent and nurture future leadership, so that local businesses grow and students gain real pathways to good work, further education, and entrepreneurship. We do this by building tailored educational models and providing managerial and administrative support to help you build your organization's future.

CAM Pathways is designed to build a customized youth apprenticeship ecosystem that fits rural and small‑city communities by offering tools, one-on-one coaching, mentoring, and teaching, as well as hands‑on support to design high‑quality, competency‑based apprenticeships around real local roles. Inclusion and opportunity for students of all backgrounds are at the core of our apprentice‑centered, competency-based, community‑led model.

There are over 900 career fields already approved for apprenticeships where you get paid to learn. Chances are we can find or build a program for you or your business.

An Options and Pathways Multiplier

Any young person—whether they plan to work during high school or right after high school, go to college, start a business, participate in a high school completion program, or are unsure—can benefit from a CAM Pathways apprenticeship. Apprentices split their time between school and paid work, earning wages, building experience, and often earning credit or credentials that open more doors after high school. We can potentially develop an apprenticeship tailored to your career goals.

A student can start as a CAM apprentice and go to high school, an adult diploma program, or complete a degree (while in high school in some cases), or use an apprenticeship to step directly into a skilled role in areas like operations, nursing, allied health fields, customer service, technology, community services, or small‑business support. Apprenticeship is not a diversion from higher education; it is a rigorous educational option that combines classroom learning with structured, competency‑based, real‑world learning to support both career and educational goals.

Custom‑Designed Pathways, Not One‑Size‑Fits‑All Occupations

Many apprenticeship systems offer a fixed menu of occupations; CAM Pathways starts with people and community needs. We co‑design each apprenticeship with the apprentice, the employer, and local partners so that the role, learning plan, and supports match the actual work and the apprentice’s long‑term goals.

Instead of asking students to fit into a pre‑written job description, we help employers carve out meaningful, productive work and then align it with coursework, credentials, and coaching. That means every CAM Pathways apprenticeship is built to be mutually beneficial: a productive team member for the employer and a real pathway to future education, employment, or both for the apprentice.
